Dry winter hair is no fun. When the cold weather has already got you down, who wants to deal with bad hair too? If your hair is ready to kiss winter goodbye, give it the hydration it needs – naturally. Here are six ways to have your tresses in tiptop shape!
Wash your hair less
Your hair’s natural oils can be your best friend in dry weather. But, washing your hair every day only strips your hair of all that natural goodness. Try decreasing your wash frequency by washing only every other day. If you don’t like the feel of “dirty” hair, you can use a dry shampoo to get you from wash to wash.
Beauty by Earth’s dry shampoo is the perfect alternative to daily washings. Just brush out your hair, give your locks a quick spritz, and massage it in to reduce grease, improve volume, and achieve an all around gorgeous head of hair. This solution is as beneficial for the environment as it is for you. Like all of their products, the powder shampoo is made with 100% natural ingredients: nothing toxic, nothing iffy, and nothing that could harm your hair.
Find a natural moisturizing shampoo
Synthetic ingredients in traditional hair products can have unintended effects, like dryness. Find a shampoo with natural ingredients to retain your hair’s moisture in a healthier way! You’ll like the Acure Mega Moisture Argan Oil and Pumpkin Shampoo for those reasons.
Its hydrating formula is perfect to combat dry winter hair. Not to mention, the natural ingredients are great for your hair and the planet. One thing you won’t find in this moisturizing blend are things like parabens, sulfates, pthalates, petroleum and silicone. Instead, it’s loaded with good, natural ingredients like aloe, pomegranate extract, argan and pumpkin seed oil. They’ll leave nothing behind but moisture and shine!
Use a leave-in conditioner
A leave-in conditioner will seal the moisture in. It’s a great option for those with medium to thicker hair and also those with wavy texture. Use a small amount and apply from mid-shaft to the ends of the hair. Avoid putting it on your scalp.
Jojoba oil, coconut oil or shea butter work great for this. However, if you prefer an actual conditioner, we like the Evolvh SmartStart Leave-in Conditioner. Besides the increased moisture, it adds UV and heat protection to your hair. It’s got a lightweight, water-based formula and is full of natural ingredients like lecithin, rice bran, cumin and bergamot oil. They all work together to nourish, detangle and fortify the hair from flyaways, frizz and potential breakage.
Switch to an alcohol-free hairspray
The alcohol in hairspray can further dry out your hair and take the static out of control. Switch to a moisturizing hairspray without alcohol. After all, more moisture means less static.
One of our favorites is the Honeybee Gardens Herbal Mint Alcohol Free Hairspray. We like that it’s enriched with organic botanical ingredients to nourish hair and increase shine. And of course, the alcohol-free formula means it is non-drying, so your hair stays soft and static-free.
Ditch your plastic comb or brush
Plastic combs are the worst for static. Switch to a rubber, wooden or metal comb instead. Natural bristle brushes are also great for eliminating static. The bristles distribute your natural oils throughout your hair. Bonus: natural bristles will also increase your hair’s natural shine!
We love the Beauty by Earth Boar Bristle Brush. Its natural boar bristles are perfectly suited to moving your body’s natural oils. By transporting oils from your scalp down to your tips, you’ll end up with hair that’s shiny, happy, and healthy. Best of all – this brush works beautifully for any type of hair! Whether your hair is thin or thick, straight or curly, or anywhere in between, it will help to naturally moisturize and detangle your lovely locks. Brush every day for hair that’s soft, shiny and free of frizz.
Crank up the humidifier
When the air is dry outside, it’s usually dry inside. Your hair is thirsty in winter, and you can get the added moisture it needs simply by cranking up the humidifier. Your skin will thank you too!
