Many celebrities are making the change to sustainable fashion. Whether it’s wearing more eco-friendly clothes in their everyday lives or partnering with clothing brands to create their own line of sustainable fashion, many celebrities are getting on board.
In 2017, Anne Hathaway made the decision to only wear sustainable and eco-friendly fashion while on her press tour for her film, Colossal. Hathaway is known for wearing more environmentally friendly clothing without breaking the bank. She is known to thrift her clothing and purchase clothes that were produced ethically. Aside from fashion, she has also vowed to live a greener, more sustainable lifestyle with her family. It’s unclear from media coverage whether she continues to wear sustainable fashion consistently, but her message in 2017 was a huge one to the fashion industry.
Emma Watson has always been very outspoken about her views on protecting our environment. She makes it a point to always promote fair trade and ethical standards in the clothing she wears. In 2010, Watson launched a site called Feel Good Style that is dedicated to sustainable fashion and natural beauty. The following year she teamed up with luxury designer Alberta Ferretti to produce an eco friendly clothing line called “Pure Threads”. Watson said after that partnership that she “will work for anyone for free if they’re prepared to make their clothing fair trade and organic”.
When Serena Williams isn’t winning grand slams in tennis, she’s hitting them in the sustainable fashion industry. She has released a vegan clothing line titled “Serena”. From sweatshirts to joggers, everything is made 100 percent vegan and cruelty free. Williams wants to create fashion that will last, that way less waste ends up in landfills.
Stella McCartney is revolutionary in terms of promoting sustainable fashion. She is one of the most well-known and recognizable faces of eco-friendly clothing. All of the clothing she designs and produces follows sustainable and environmentally friendly practices from start to finish. McCartney is all about saving the planet and has said, “there is a vested interest because we live on this planet and we need to look after it, as without it, we have nothing”. She has gained significant interest in changing the way fashion is produced and will continue to do so.
Sophia Bush is not afraid to get hands dirty and help stand up for fundamental rights and movements. Not only is she a huge advocate for the environment, but also women, animals and so many others. Sophia is a huge inspiration for getting out there and doing all she can for everything that she believes in. She was also the face of the fair trade brand 31 Bits Holiday 2015 collection. Sophia has always loved the environment and has wanted to protect it. She has shared her opinions on our plant before and this is what she had to say, “this planet hosts us, not the other way around, and I think that when that lightbulb clicks on for people and they become a little bit more aware or they start making changes and realize how much better it makes them feel, everything gets a little bit better”.
These strong, powerful women are leading the way to make our planet healthy. You don’t have to be famous to have sustainable fashion. It’s as easy as a few simple changes that will go a long way. So what are you waiting for? Let’s help our planet!
